Business Coaching Financial Planner Success Story

Max Baillargeon is a young, intelligent, caring and eager financial planner with a reputable prestigious financial advising company – Northwestern Mutual in Truckee, CA.  (530) 433-5798

In these institutions, there is mentorship and training and his business was growing (not as fast as he wanted), yet he was still unsure of how to best use his time and exactly what to do and how to prioritize his actions to get maximal results.  He heard from some colleagues that they had outside business coaches and that they still do.

He reached out to me.  This was a leap of faith for him.  He was committed to going for it and paying me, but it was out of his comfort zone.  He was also risking being vulnerable with his feelings and situation and knew if the coaching was to work well, he would have to open up to another person.

He knew he needed that external extra push, not from within his organization.  He wanted to have someone supporting him who was objective, didn’t use his industry jargon and would help come up with new ideas.

We broke down his prospecting, interviewing and product offering processes.  The verbiage, the tone, paperwork, everything.  We agreed on his critical performance indicators (CPI’s) and daily, weekly and monthly milestones.  We identified only a few areas as drivers for success, so he could compartmentalize his time and know exactly what to work on to get the results he wanted for his clients and himself.  He was also committed to excellence in customer service and offering only the exact products that would help his clients the most.

I encouraged him to set goals that were exciting, not easily reached but possible.  A “thrilling challenge”.

He didn’t meet all his action goals right away.  We worked together on his blocks and procrastination (let’s be real, we all do this) to identify motivational factors that would last.  During these months of coaching, it felt like two steps forward and one back, but still progress.  He also knew I would be there to hold him accountable.  The key was to get him self-driven.  I knew something big was coming … then a huge breakthrough occurred when he took his action from 80-90% of his goals to 110%.  He found out that 110% was actually easier energetically than when he was not meeting his goals and beating himself up.  Incredible!

The other beauty of doing 110% of his goals was that if he wanted to take a day off to spend with his honey, or ski or play golf with a friend, he could.  If he met his goals early in the day, he could also go to the gym and work out.  It’s amazing to reach your financial goals AND have your quality of life go up.  What he really loved was having flex and control of his schedule, and going home relaxed and satisfied that he did his best.

In the year that we worked together, his business grew 30%, and I know that in his industry, income can grow exponentially.  He is an inspiration to us all.  Go for it.  What’s the most important thing for you to do today to grow your business?  Do it 110% and then reward yourself.
